Savory Steak And Pepper Stir Fry

Ingredients

- 2 teaspoons oil
- 1 1/2 lbs flank steaks, thinly sliced (or use lamb tenderloin)
- 1/8 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1 medium red pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 medium green pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce, or
- 1 tablespoon teriyaki sauce (for sweeter flavor)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- cooked rice, for serving
Recipe
- 1 in a skillet, heat oil on medium-high until hot. sprinkle steak with five-spice powder and 1/4 tsp salt; add to skillet. cook 3 minutes or until just browned, stirring occasionally. with a slotted spoon, transfer to a bowl.
- 2 if you're not fond of peppers, you can substitute a bag of frozen broccoli florets. to skillet, add peppers (florets), onion, 2 tbsp water, and a pinch of salt. cover; cook 5 minutes, or until slightly softened, stirring occasionally.
- 3 in a small bowl, whisk together sugar, soy sauce, cornstarch, 3 tbsp water and 1/4 tsp pepper until smooth. add to skillet; heat to simmering. simmer 1 minute or until thickened. add beef and any accumulated juices to skillet. cook 1 minute or until beef is heated through. serve over rice.
