Savory Steak And Pepper Stir Fry

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 2 teaspoons oil
  • 1 1/2 lbs flank steaks, thinly sliced (or use lamb tenderloin)
  • 1/8 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1 medium red pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium green pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce, or
  • 1 tablespoon teriyaki sauce (for sweeter flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • cooked rice, for serving

Recipe

  • 1 in a skillet, heat oil on medium-high until hot. sprinkle steak with five-spice powder and 1/4 tsp salt; add to skillet. cook 3 minutes or until just browned, stirring occasionally. with a slotted spoon, transfer to a bowl.
  • 2 if you're not fond of peppers, you can substitute a bag of frozen broccoli florets. to skillet, add peppers (florets), onion, 2 tbsp water, and a pinch of salt. cover; cook 5 minutes, or until slightly softened, stirring occasionally.
  • 3 in a small bowl, whisk together sugar, soy sauce, cornstarch, 3 tbsp water and 1/4 tsp pepper until smooth. add to skillet; heat to simmering. simmer 1 minute or until thickened. add beef and any accumulated juices to skillet. cook 1 minute or until beef is heated through. serve over rice.
