Old Fashioned Swiss Steak

Ingredients

  • Servings: 2
  • 3/4 lb boneless beef top round steak
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 (5 1/2 ounce) can tomato juice
  • 1/2 cup canned tomato, diced
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard

Recipe

  • 1 cut steak into 2 pieces; sprinkle with salt and pepper. coat in flour, using a mallet, pound flour into the meat. in large skillet, brown meat on both sides. transfer to a shallow 1 quart baking dish coated with nonstick cooking spray.
  • 2 in same skillet, saute onion in drippings until tender. stir in remaining ingredients. pour over meat. cover and bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours, or until tender.
