Gammon (ham Steaks) With Whiskey Sauce

Total Time: 40 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 4 ham steaks
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped onions
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons whiskey
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 cup water or 3/4 cup stock
  • salt or pepper

Recipe

  • 1 brush steaks with melted butter.
  • 2 snip fat to prevent curling, and grill for 7-8 minutes each side.
  • 3 to make sauce, gently fry onions in remainder of butter until cooked.
  • 4 remove from heat and stir in flour gradually.
  • 5 add stock and return to heat.
  • 6 add sugar and bring to the boil.
  • 7 simmer gently for about 2 minutes to cook flour.
  • 8 if sauce seems a little thick, add more water.
  • 9 add whiskey and season to taste.
  • 10 place gammon steaks on a warmed serving platter and pour on sauce.
