Oven Swiss Steak

Total Time: 2 hrs 40 mins Preparation Time: 40 mins Cook Time: 2 hrs

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1 1/2 lbs boneless round steak
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons crisco
  • 1 (14 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup celery, chopped
  • 1/2 cup carrot, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons onions, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup cheese, shredded

Recipe

  • 1 cut meat in serving portions.
  • 2 combine flour and salt.
  • 3 brown meat in hot crisco.
  • 4 transfer meat to shallow baking dish.
  • 5 blend reserved flour mixture into pan drippings in skillet.
  • 6 add tomatoes, celery, carrots, onions and worcestershire sauce to drippings and cook.
  • 7 stir constantly until mixture boils.
  • 8 pour over meat.
  • 9 cover and bake at 350°f for 2 hours or until meat and vegetables are tender.
  • 10 sprinkle cheese over meat.
  • 11 return to oven for a few minutes to melt cheese.
