Seasoned Chicken Fried Steaks

Total Time: 28 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 18 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 2/3 cups buttermilk, divided
  • 4 (4 ounce) beef cube steaks
  • 1 1/2 cups low-fat milk
  • vegetable oil (for frying)

Recipe

  • 1 in a shallow bowl, combine 2 cups flour, baking powder, and seasonings.
  • 2 in another shallow bowl, combine eggs, and 1 cup buttermilk.
  • 3 dip each cubed steak in buttermilk mixture, then roll in flour mixture, and let stand for 5 minutes.
  • 4 in a large skillet, heat 1/2 inch of oil on medium-high.
  • 5 fry steaks for 5-7 minutes, and turn carefully.
  • 6 cook 5 minutes longer or until coating is crisp and meat is no longer pink.
  • 7 remove steaks and keep warm.
  • 8 drain reserving 1/3 cup drippings, and stir remaining flour into drippings until smooth.
  • 9 cook and stir over medium heat for 2 minutes.
  • 10 gradually whisk in milk, and remaining buttermilk.
  • 11 bring to a boil, and cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened.
  • 12 serve with steaks.
