Norwegian Birds

Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 lb chip steak
  • 2 carrots, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 onion, sliced very thin
  • flour, salt and pepper for dusting

Recipe

  • 1 place thin slice of onion and 2 to 3 slices of carrots on each slice of meat.
  • 2 dust with salt, pepper and flour mixture.
  • 3 roll and fasten with toothpicks or thread.
  • 4 brown on all sides in melted butter. when all pieces are brown, cover with water.
  • 5 add a few bay leaves and 1/4 teaspoon allspice.
  • 6 simmer 15 minutes.
  • 7 make a paste of flour and water; pour over meat and simmer about 45 minutes more for flavorful gravy.
  • 8 watch carefully after 30 minutes to be sure gravy doesn't cook away.
