Oriental-style Marinated Flank Steak

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup sherry wine vinegar
  • 3 scallions, chopped
  • 2 inches length fresh ginger, peeled and minced
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried hot red pepper flakes
  • 2 lbs flank steaks

Recipe

  • 1 in a blender, blend together oils, sugar, soy, vinegar, scallions, ginger, garlic, lemon juice, pepper flakes and ¼ cup water until smooth.
  • 2 in a shallow dish, pour marinade over steak, turning to coat well.
  • 3 let steak marinate, covered and chilled, overnight.
  • 4 discard marinade.
  • 5 grill steak on an oiled rack set about 4 inches over coals for 5-6 minutes on each side for medium-rare meat and transfer to a cutting board.
  • 6 let steak stand 10 minutes and slice thin across the grain.
