Old England Ham Chowder

Total Time: 40 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 300 g gammon steaks
  • 3 medium carrots
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 1 onion
  • 2 medium potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons cream
  • 1 1/2 liters chicken stock
  • 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1 tablespoon chopped dill

Recipe

  • 1 finely chop the onions and the celery and fry in butter.
  • 2 when softened and translucent add diced carrots.
  • 3 cube the gammon ( approx 1 x 1 cm cubes) and add to the mixture.
  • 4 let simmer for a few minutes frequently stirring.
  • 5 add the cubed potatoes, the chicken stock and marjoram.
  • 6 let simmer for approx 30 minutes till the potatoes start breaking up ( use a flowery variety such as king edward).
  • 7 take off the heat and add the cream.
  • 8 season to taste.
  • 9 garnish with chopped fresh dill.
